BJP’s Priyanka Tibrewal against Mamata Banerjee in Bhawanipur

Politics

After losing from Nandigram, Mamata Banerjee have to win an assembly seat to retain her position as chief minister. That’s why Mamata Banerjee is contesting a highly anticipated by-poll from Bhawanipur assembly seat against a lesser-known BJP leader and lawyer Priyanka Tibrewal.

Priyanka Tibrewal was born and bought up in Bhawanipur. She is a lawyer and also was one of the petitioners in the post-poll violence cases against the TMC. Priyanka Tibrewal joined BJP in 2014. Previously, she was the legal advisor of former Union Minister Babul Supriyo. But Mamata Banerjee had won from Bhawanipur seat twice and she is confident that she will win third time also.

During the campaign of assembly election Mamata Banerjee had said that Hindi speaking PM Modi and Amit Shah are outsider. But the matter of fact is Bhawanipur is such a place where many people are Non-Bengali and speaks Hindi. A sizeable population in Bhawanipur are Sikhs and Gujratis. Even Priyanka Tibrewal comes from a Marwari family based in Bhawanipur. That’s why Priyanka rightly asked Mamata Banerjee “I believe Mamata Banerjee doesn’t want the votes of outsiders, or Hindi-speaking people”. Here BJP had played the outsider card correctly in its favor.

Tibrewal is a law graduate from south Kolkata’s Hazra Law College and an MBA from Thailand’s Assumption University. She is now Vice President of BJP’s youth wing. She fought fearlessly against the brutal post poll violence and she stood with the victims. This is not the first time Mamata Banerjee is facing a female candidate. She was once defeated in 1989 Lok Sabha election by CPI(M)’s Malini Bhattacharya. That’s why this by poll is very crucial both for BJP and TMC.
