Uranium Deposits Detected in Arunachal Pradesh

India

Arunachal Pradesh is a state of north eastern India. It is a state with huge natural resources. Researchers found sources of Uranium in Arunachal Pradesh. It is very important for generating nuclear energy. Nuclear energy is a renewable and clean energy. It is also needed to reach the goal for ‘low-carbon footprint’. The Indo-China border is more or less three kilometers away from the place. Scientists from Atomic Minerals Directorate are carrying out detailed geological investigations in Mechuka Valley to find out the sources of Uranium. There are reserves of other minerals also. Uranium and gold reserves are cloistered in the mountains of Himalaya from Ladakh to North Eastern Tripura. AMD is evaluating minerals and trying to identify uranium, thorium, zirconium, titanium and others rare earths.

Geographical location of Mechuka vally is very unique. Mechuka is a small town, situated 6000 feet above sea level in Arunachal Pradesh. Line of Actual Control or the McMahon Line separates Indian and Chinese territory. It is a tourist destination because of its scenic beauty, exotic tribes, gentle hills and snow-capped mountains. As per the reports the discovery of Uranium has been made at a depth of about 619 meters from the ground level in Mechuka valley. Explorations for Uranium is being carried out in Manipur and Himachal Pradesh also. Seventy percent of the total uranium used in the world is produced by only three countries, Kazakhstan, Canada and Australia.

AMD is putting its efforts mainly in the states of Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and Assam. These are the most potential states. The country’s largest and richest uranium deposits were located in areas of West Khasi Hills district in Meghalaya. It was discovered in 1984 and the drilling and studies were completed in 1992. Rare earths like carbonatite and alkaline complexes were identified in the area of Jasra and Sung valley of Meghalaya and Barpung & Samchampi of Assam. Not only this but there are huge reserves of Vanadium in north east region of Arunachal Pradesh. If India finds Vanadium in Arunachal then that will be a game changer for Indian economy. It is very important metal for making nuclear reactors. This metal can play a big role in defense, energy and space sector. Relience Industries Limited had developed new technologies to extract vanadium from gasifier slag.

India has developed Advance Landing Ground in Mechuka valley and it is capable for landing of huge aircrafts like C-130J. India recently purchased this aircraft from United States. This aircraft can play a big role in transport of materials and scientists from AMD headquarters Hydrabad to Mechuka Valley. China claims this particular area and whole of Arunachal Pradesh. As per them it is a part of southern Tibet. I think they haven’t considered India’s claim and have constructed road for China’s CPEC project that passes through PoK. Just like that India here can collaborate with United States and start exploration of minerals jointly. India’s joint initiative will help strengthen Indo-US relation and it will teach a lesson to China also.
